Lefty or righty, a tool that is symmetrical will work well. But anything with an off-set blade needs a left handed version for left handed people. We make them.

Designed decades ago by a woman living on Cape Cod (or so it was told). The cape cod weeder was a regional favorite until the late 1980's when Snow & Neally of Bangor, Maine began to market it nationwide. It is now well on its way to ubiquity. Our version adheres closely to the original design albeit with a longer shank and shorter handle.

We also forge it a bit thicker for longer life and better performance on overgrown weeds. The tool cuts on both the forward and back stroke -- it's a scuffle hoe -- and can be turned on its side and driven in by its point to nick out weeds snuggled up to valuable plants. Properly made, the cape cod weeder has a slight back angle to the blade that makes it exceptionally effective on the pull stroke.

Moreover, this is a tool that demands to be produced in both left and right handed versions. (I'm very right handed and can't begin to use the Southpaw version. I got this amazing tool many years ago and it is still one of my favorites. It is a heavier weeder than most and excellent in every way. If you like a lighter, more wimpy tool, this one is not for you.

Love This Weeder

Great weeder for cutting below the roots of crab grass. Good in tight places between plants. Strong enough that I use it to break up soil before planting seeds or small bulbs requiring shallow planting.

Weeder Extrordinaire

This tool makes mincemeat of weeds! It's so efficient that my weeding time has been cut short. I'm not sure what it's doing down "there" but the weeds are terrified and practically jump out of the ground. I've gifted this tool to fellow gardeners and will do so again... yes, it's that great!
