Circular Hoe Long Handle

Sale price$95.00

Take out the weeds without taking out your plants

A common task in the garden is weeding around shrubs, flowers, and young trees you have spent time and effort getting in the ground. This circular hoe is designed to prevent undercutting or slicing through the early roots of those plants when they are still vulnerable. This is one of a few different types of tender plant hoes we make for working near young plants.

The circle hoe had been available in the Pacific Northwest to gardeners for many years, but it has been a while since they were made. We have adapted the original design, made it more oblong and call it the circular hoe. This long handle version has an approximate width of 2 1/2 inches, and a 10 inch or so reach beyond the end of the handle. The tool is also available on 18" handles for raised bed work or those who work seated in a chair. A hand-held version with an 11-15" reach for use while sitting or squatting on the ground is available here on our website.

There are two ordering options as there is only one head size for this tool (Custom head sizes available, please get in touch for more information.):
  • Choose a handle length based on your height, 18" for working at raised beds, or order the solid socket head with no handle.
  • Choose style of connection: forged solid socket (riveted) or tang and ferrule (riveted)
The size, shape, and weight of a long handled tool means we must charge an additional $15 shipping fee per tool to our flat rate shipping rate to accommodate for the actual cost of shipping it. Tools that are both long and wide can be quite expensive to ship.

The solid socket is heavier duty and sturdier tool, but the tang-and-ferrule option is still strong and a great option for those who need a slightly lighter weight option.

First, I want to say the workmanship of this tool is superb, I am very pleased in that regard. However, maybe my expectations were off. I was doing my best to find the long handled version of my beloved circle hoe that is no longer made. This version is a disappointment, The handle, although made for my height, is way too long. I have to shift my body from one side to other depending on what I am trying to accomplish. The head is indeed more oval instead of circular, so when I go in to weed, the extended front edge has to be placed at a good distance to kind of pull the dirt rather than dig right in get close to the plants. To put it differently, the front edge just doesn't go in to the dirt where the blade is. I unfortunately can not recommend this tool. I'm so sad to leave the feedback. I believe it is an honest effort to do something really good and the price would be worth it if it worked, but this one will lay in a corner for me. :(

I had one of these , but not handmade, years ago. I finally broke the handle. I found this one and it is infinitely better. So glad I finally replaced it. I am currently working on old Bermuda and weed patch. I soak an area the night before and next day go to town. It follows those roots removing them one long strand at a time!
